The date for the coronation of the Zulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini has been filled with drama and controversy due to lack of unity in the royal family.

King Misuzulu KaZwelithini will have his traditional coronation in the cattle kraal on 20 August 2022.

He will perform the traditional ceremony of entering the cattle kraal, known as ukungena esibayeni in Zulu language.

The ceremony will be at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma, North of KwaZuluNatal Province.


The Zulu Traditional Prime Minister Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi said the King ascended on the throne, the day President Cyril Ramaphosa recognised him.

He said the handing over of the certificate by the President will take place at the Moses Mabhida stadium.
