The South African government has extended the validity of the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits by another six months.

The extension is until the 30th of June next year. The Home Affairs department cited the low number of applications received so far for the extension.

South Africa plans to end most special permits for foreign nationals as it revamps its immigration policies to manage an influx of economic migrants.

Atleast 178 000 Zimbabweans faced deportation from the country after the expiry of their special permits due on December 31 this year.
