Residents discovered lifeless bodies of young people scattered on the ground at Enyobeni tavern in Scenery Park, East London in the Eastern Cape.
The bodies were discovered on Sunday morning and the youngest victim is just 13 years old.
The manager of the tavern told ENCA NEWS that there was no stampede even though the place was overcrowded. He said the kids were just falling.
Other reports indicated that there was use of teargas at the tavern. Police Minister Bheki Cele vowed to reveal the truth as investigations continue.
Bheki Cele who visited the scene of the incident urged parents to be strict with their children in order to avoid similar occurrences.
Atleast 21 young people lost their lives at Enyobeni tavern. May their souls rest in eternal peace. Our deepest condolences to their families and friends.
