Bathobile Mlangeni is suspected to be the one who stole R4 million from the Mall of Africa in Midrand, Gauteng in 2019. She was arrested earlier this month after two years of searching by the SAPS.
Bathobile stayed in a modest home in Soweto before she was arrested. She had no fancy clothes or fancy expensive household gadgets. She also slept on an old bed.
Vangille Dlamini, a woman who lived with Bathobile Mlangeni told TimesLive that she misses her a lot. The elderly woman cried as she revealed that Bathobile Mlangeni was taking good care of her.
Dlamini had no idea that her caregiver was linked to such a crime therefore she was still shocked and indisbelief during the time of the interview. She added that they lived a modest life as they would just eat pap and milk and so on.
She said: “she should have taken me to fancy hotels for a meal but instead, I was the one who would make sure that we had something to eat.”
Mlangeni abandoned her bid for bail in her recent court appearance. TimesLive discovered that Mlangeni moved from friend to friend before she came to live with Dlamini in Zola, Soweto.
She stayed in Zola for two months before getting arrested, she will be back in court on the 18th of February 2021.
