A few days ago the Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa said reasons for South Africa’s withdrawal from Miss Universe far outweighed individual interests.
Government withdrew its support of the Miss South Africa pageant following Miss SA organisation’s decision to send Lalela Mswane to participate at the Miss Universe pageant that will be held in Israel.
The Jewish Board of Deputies in South Africa has lashed out at the Ministry following Mthethwa’s announcement.
The South African Zionist Federation also blasted the Minister saying the ruling party has been misled when it comes to Israel. They said South Africa risked finding itself in isolation and being irrelevant on the world stage.
However the Spokesperson for Palestine Solidarity Alliance revealed that they are excited about the government’s decision to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
ANC Women’s League said they are supporting government’s decision to boycott Miss Universe in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
