Zandile Ndhlovu is the first black free-diving trainer in South Africa. She is known as South Africa’s black mermaid and last year she started the Black Mermaid Foundation.
The aim of the platform is to teach people how to dive. She told eNCA news that she also teaches people how to hold their breath. Zandile revealed that she started diving when she visited Bali.
Ndhlovu had grown up in Soweto a place where thereis no ocean. She said after diving in Bali and seen the beauty of the ocean, she promised herself that she was going to be a diver.
After the experience she also wanted others to know about the beauty of the ocean thus she decided to be a free-diving teacher and instructor.
She has dived with sharks and has also experienced listening to the sounds of whales deep down the ocean. Zandile also mentioned that she got to see some of the animals she never knew existed.
Zandile went on to say that her Foundation was helping people of colour to venture into diving. She revealed that she takes young persons aged between ten to fifteen on trips into the ocean.
