South Africans have rejected Jolidee Matongo as the newly elected executive mayor of Johannesburg.

This came after it was revealed that he is the son of a Zimbabwean immigrant.

He was elected after a special meeting to fill the post left vacant by Geoff Makhubo, who succumbed to Covid-19 complications.

Matongo was elected after receiving more than 260 council votes on Tuesday and remained uncontested, a rare occurrence in the city.

Many tweeps said they can’t allow their country to be ruled by foreigners.
