Papa Penny’s former manager Lerato Manaka and her fellow ex-cons have created a better life for themselves by venturing into acting.

The ex-cons who were said to have been held at a Johannesburg female prison performed their first play about fraud on Freedom day. Lerato was sentenced back in 2017 to twelve years imprisonment for fraud.

According to the Daily Sun she was accused of transferring money from someone’s bank account to her husband’s company in 2011 when she was a project manager.

She made headlines back in 2017 after she approached DStv and asked them to stop airing Papa Penny’s popular reality show Papa Penny Ayeye claiming that he owed her R200 000.

She however served just over 2 years instead of 12 years in prison. Five years were suspended and she is serving the rest of her sentence outside the prison until 2023.

Lerato is said to be now helping former prisoners through her NPO. She said because of stigmatisation they couldn’t find work thus they thought of acting which they started in prison.
