Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola has confirmed that the extradition request for Mr and Mrs Bushiri has been served.
According to the Minister this was done in terms of Article 6 of the SADC Protocol on extradition as well as Article 10 of the extradition agreement which was entered between the government of Malawi and the Republic of South Africa.
The department said as indicated for, the law provides for this extradition request to be submitted within 30 days however in this case the extradition request has been brought forward within two weeks.
Bushiri and his wife Mary fled South Africa about a month ago after being released on bail of R400 000. They fled to their native country of Malawi.
