Television and radio personality Somizi Mhlongo will face an internal investigation over his utterances about the lockdown being extended.

A few hours before President Ramaphosa announced the two week extension on Thursday, Mhlongo said on social media that Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula had told this would happen.

The Minister has now laid a charge against Mhlongo for what he described as a contravention of government lockdown regulations.

Mbalula said, Mhlongo contravened with government regulations regarding misinformation and name dropping especially this period where the world is dealing with Covid-19.

Somizi Mhlongo has since apologised twice to Mbalula. The apologies were posted on Instagram.

Mhlongo said that he was just joking with fellow workmate Dineo Ranaka. He added that the Minister had not said anything related to the announcement made by the President regarding the lockdown extension.
