
SAPS the body of 20-year-old Zothani Zungu from a shallow grave in Mlaba Village, Hammarsdale (KZN) on Wednesday.

Disappearance: Zothani was last seen alive on 21 May when one of the suspects (siblings) picked him up from his home to go to a shop.

Suspect’s Behavior: The next day, the suspect suggested reporting Zothani missing, claiming they were chased and fled in different directions. He then disappeared and was later allegedly assaulted by unknown people, according to his mother.

Family’s Suspicion: The victim’s sister noted red flags, including the suspect not checking if Zothani returned home and his mother’s erratic behavior, but they initially trusted the close friendship.

Investigation: After the family opened a missing person’s case, police received a tip about the siblings’ involvement. The suspects initially pointed to wrong locations before sniffer dogs led police to the grave on Wednesday.

Victim’s Family Reaction: They are in shock and disbelief that someone so close to Zothani could harm him and are waiting for the court case to hear the motive.

Police Confirmation: KZN police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of two siblings (aged 19 and 20) and the recovery of the body from the shallow grave. A post-mortem is pending.
