South African Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula has laid a charge against TV and radio personality Somizi Mhlongo at the Sandton Police Station in Johannesburg.

Mr Mbalula said this was in contravention of the government lockdown regulations regarding misinformation and name dropping.

In an Instagram live video by Metro FM radio host Dineo Ranaka, Mhlongo was heard saying the lockdown would be extended and that it was Mbalula who told him into it.

The Minister took to his Twitter account to respond to Mhlongo who apologised to Mbalula and the nation at large on his Instagram where he said it was just a joke.

Mbalula wrote,” Spoke to@somizi he was not even aware about what his joke mean for me if it was true. Apology Accepted.”

Even though the Minister Accepted the apology, he was taking action against Somizi. Government gazetted the regulations against publishing misinformation when it comes to matters related to Coronavirus.
