David Mabilu is a prominent South African businessman and property developer, best known as the founder and CEO of the Vharanani Group. Rising from humble beginnings as the son of a domestic worker and a mine laborer, he has built a multi-billion-rand empire with interests spanning construction, mining, and media. He established Vharanani Properties in 2001; this flagship construction company has secured over R3 billion in contracts and is a major player in housing and infrastructure development. Mabilu owns Fundudzi Media, which previously acquired the Sunday World newspaper. However, recent reports from October 2025 indicate he has since sold the publication to Zucorizen. His portfolio includes Promafco (property development), Vharanani Mining, and Mbengwa Technologies. Through the David Mabilu Foundation, he focuses on community upliftment, especially in education and health. The foundation supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds and promotes skills transfer in science and technology. He holds a Master’s degree in Development from the University of Johannesburg.
