United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II has passed away at Balmoral aged 96.

Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on today.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” adding that, “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne following the death of her father King George VI on Feb. 6, 1952, when she was just 25.
