On This Day in History Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini Was Born

Today is the 14th of July and on this day in history, on 14 July 1948, the former Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu was born.

Zwelithini was born in Nongoma in KwaZuluNatal and was installed as the 8th Monarchy of the Zulu nation.

He was coronated at a traditional ceremony on the 3rd of December, 1971 in Nongoma and it was attended by 20 000 people.

Zwelithini was one of the longest serving Kings of the Zulu nation, serving for almost half a century until his death at the age of 72 on the 12th of March in 2021.
