Atleast 21 young people lost their lives in an incident that happened at a tavern in Scenery Park, East London in the Eastern Cape.
A 17 year old survivor who spoke to Tru FM revealed details of what transpired during the fateful night of Sunday 26 June 2022.
The teen who is in Grade twelve told the radio that she saw a poster on social media advertising a birthday party at the tavern.
She said as they were going down the stairs towards the exit, a bouncer closed the doors and the place was filled with teargas.
The confusion led to a stampede as other tried to get in while others tried to vacate the tavern. She revealed that some people on the upstairs fell on top of those who were downstairs.
Some collapsed and eventually some died from the stampede and teargas.
