The Eastern Cape liqour board has shut down Enyobeni Tavern in East London following an incident that left atleast 21 young people dead.
The Eastern Cape liqour board chief inspector Zola Tyiwe said once the investigations are done by the police they will open criminal charges against the owner of the tavern.
Tyiwe said they handed a notice to the owner of the tavern to close the premises and seize operations with immediate effect.
He questioned why underaged children were allowed into the premises since it is against the law and why the tavern did not abide with the closing times.
He added that any person who sells alcohol to underaged children will be in transgression of the law thus they must be prosecuted.
