Sowetan reported that Minister of Sports, Arts and culture Nathi Mthethwa is standing with his department’s decision to build a R22 million flag.

The Minister defended his department’s decision against MPs who were not in full support of the project.

The Ministers were saying the money would rather be spent in supporting struggling artists other than spending millions on a national monument flag.

However in his defence Mthethwa said the flag would teach people about the country’s democracy and how it attained its democracy.
