Last week torrential rains wrecked untold havoc in Durban and other parts of KwaZuluNatal Province. The rains caused flooding and landslides.

The floods and the landslides left a trail of destruction across the Province. The death toll has risen to over 440 while over 60 people are still missing.

Over 13 550 people have been affected while over 8300 homes were partially destroyed. More than 3900 homes were totally damaged.

The affected communities are in dire need of basics as most of their assets were washed away by floods.

Water pipes were unearthed by by floods and  electric poles were also destroyed.

Meanwhile the Motsepe Foundation has donated R30 million towards relief efforts in KwaZuluNatal.
