Over 1200 people have been left homeless after a fire at the Joe Slovo informal settlement in Cape Town.

The cause of this fire is still not yet known, but the authorities are still investigating what happened.

Zahid Badroodien, who is a member of the City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee for water and sanitation told the media that the fire destroyed 300 structures.

He said the City and The Gift of Givers were quick to respond since a lot of families lost everything in the fire.

Zahid added that they have already worked out and established the number of homes, toilets, and taps that need to be restored aswell as electricity.
