There is a flair of tension in the Zulu Royal House after Prince Thokozani Zulu penned down an open letter on Tuesday aimed at Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

He accused Mangosuthu Buthelezi of remotely controlling previous Zulu Kings and the current King Misuzulu.

In the letter which was sent to private media, Thokozani alleged that Buthelezi who is the Zulu Traditional Prime minister is abusing his powerful political position.

The two have a contentious relationship and during the height of tensions over the Zulu throne Buthelezi said Thokozani had no right to discuss Royal matters as he was born out of wedlock.

The two also clashed at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace when the Queen regent Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu’s Will appointed Misuzulu as the King of the Zulu nation.

Thokozani’s challenge at the reading of the Will created chaos and Misuzulu had to be whisked away from the Palace by guards.

The letter was a response to King Misuzulu’s speech about protests that rocked KwaZuluNatal a few months ago. Misuzulu struggled while reading the speech which was written in Zulu and English.

This prompted Thokozani to say the speech was forced on the new Zulu King by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who was seated next to him. Buthelezi would whisper in the King’s ear on several occasions.

Thokozani said the British weakened the Zulu Monarch during the colonial era. He added that they still control the Monarch and that they are now using proxies.
