According to the SABC News, the late Mayor of Johannesburg, Jolidee Matongo will be laid to rest today. The Mayor passed away on the 18th of September 2021 in a car accident.
Family, friends and ANC comrades gathered outside Matongo’s residence in Johannesburg to pay their last respects to the late Mayor.
Matongo has been described as a tried and tested cadre of the movement. President Cyril Ramaphosa also was in attendance to pay his respects.
Matongo’s car crashed on his way back from an election campaign where he was with Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa said Matongo was passionate and hardworking even though the citizens had accepted him under difficult conditions.
ANC Johannesburg Regional Treasurer Mpho Moerane described Matongo as a jolly good fellow who loved laughing and joking around. He was also described as a humble person who embodied the spirit of Ubuntu.
Matongo is survived by his wife and children. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
