Billionaire, Elon Musk recently unveiled the planned Tesla Electric aeroplane. The electric plane will be manufactured in a combined effort between Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk revealed that the electric aeroplane will have vertical takeover and vertical landing to reduce the need of a runaway.
Elon Musk says there are currently no car companies that are also aeroplane companies.
He says there are a lot of regulatory barriers to be overcame if Tesla is to bring about an electric plane.
Energy
Tesla is currently working on improving the efficiency of their batteries. Batteries can only store a limited amount of energy. However this is still some years away.
Safety
There is no current understanding of how to test the safety of batteries. Unlike conventional fuel systems, it is jot possible to just dump the batteries if something happens.
