A female security guard from Midrand, who walked away with R4 Million from the Mall of Africa SBV Depot, was located by Police in February, but escaped before she could be arrested.
Bathobile walked out of the depot, where she worked, with the money stuffed in four refuse bags and it is suspected that she had accomplices.
The Sowetan reports that after getting away with the money in July 2019, Bathobile Mlangeni (29), reportedly stayed with a friend in Buhle Park, Germiston, and pretended that she was hiding away from her abusive boyfriend.
The owner of the house where Bathobile lived told the Sowetan that Bathobile would stay indoors all the time. When Bathobile needed to make calls, she walked to a nearby veld and would destroy the sim card immediately after the call.
After living in the neighborhood for a while, Bathobile found a new boyfriend and moved in with him.
When the story of her theft broke in national newspapers in February this year, Bathobile immediately disappeared and was never seen again. She left her new boyfriend a note apologizing for leaving abruptly. However, her new boyfriend has also disappeared from his home.
