The Sunday independent reports that Limpopo’s PPE Supply budget of almost R1 Billion may have been wasted after most of the companies awarded supply tenders appear to have been politically connected.
Most of the companies that were awarded contracts are from Vhembe, where the MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, comes from. The Chief of staff, Nyambeni Mattshivha and the CFO, Justice Mudau also come from Vhembe.
The daughter of a friend of Dr Ramathuba, former Limpopo Sports MDC, Onica Moloi ( Elizabeth Moloi), Was awarded a R2, 2 million supply contact.
Another major contact, Pro Secure, which is owned by a Durban Businessman, Ferrell Govender, is reportedly not on the Limpopo official list of suppliers.
Pro Secure was awarded contacts worth over R59 Million and reportedly further sub contacted companies owned by the relatives of some politicians and department officials.
