Gender based violence in South Africa has risen at an alarming rate and celebrities have taken a stand to help curb the violence against women and children.

Songstress Zahara has decided to open up about her unfortunate ordeal where she was almost r*aped a few years ago. She revealed this on eTV’s Morning Show where she was a guest.

With tears in her eyes the ‘Loliwe’ hitmaker opened up about the incident which took place in East London in the Eastern Cape.

She said a police officer offered her a lift and took her to a remote bushy area in Buffalo Park with an attempt to r*ape her.

“I told the Officer where I wanted to go and gave him details of which he ignored” she said.

Zahara also said the Officer took another route and when she told him that he had made a wrong turn he shouted at her and told her to shut up.

She added that he drove under the bridge and paper sprayed her. Zahara revealed that she begged for mercy from the Officer who held a gun in an attempt to scare her. Luckily she managed to get away.
