Playing football at the top level is one of the best ways to earn millions in this day and age, but contrary to popular belief not all Football players remain wealthy for the rest of their lives. There are many things that can go wrong as some lose their fortunes in luxurious lifestyles.

Number ten is Jethro “Lovers” Mohlala. He became a star after joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 1997. He lost his all hard earned money on parties and women. He is now 44 years old and broke despite earning fortunes during his career.

At number nine there is Thembinkosi Fanteni whose talent attracted attention from European Clubs. However his love for alcohol and parties led him away from the pitch and took him into financial woes.

At number eight is Junaid Hartley. He showed lack of discipline during his career and lost his fortune in a lawsuit against Orlando Pirates. Jabu Mahlangu is at number seven. He played for Kaizer Chiefs but his career failed because of alcohol abuse.

Mbulelo Mabizela is at number six. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2003. However problems with alcohol and substance abuse led to the demise of his career.

Number five is Philemon Masinga who played in several European clubs. However Masinga lost all his money and was declared bankrupt in 2011 after successful business ventures.

Steve Lekoelea is at number four, he spent most his career time at Orlando Pirates. Gambling, alcohol and parties led to a failure in his soccer career.

At number three there is Ndumiso Vezi. His soccer dreams turned into a nightmare and he now relies on his father’s pension for survival after a feud with Ajax turned ugly and left him without money.

Number two is Benedict Vilakazi who used to play for Orlando Pirates. His career was full of controversy and scandals such that he ended up failing to go to play in Europe or be successful with any club.

Taking the top spot, at number one is Teko Modise. He lost his houses and cars five years ago due to lack of payments. He is now a staff member at CapeTown City.
