The chief financial officer of the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB), Nthabeleng Khabutlane,has died. The MDB announced Khabutlane’s untimely death in a media statement. She was 45 years old. Khabutlane passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in a Gauteng hospital after a short illness.

In addition to her role at the MDB, she was the founder of Fezi Auditors and Consultants. Her company provided financial services to both the government and the private sector.

She joined the Municipal Demarcation Board as CFO on September 1, 2023. Khabutlane served on multiple boards, including the Free State Gambling and Racing Board, the Free State Development Corporation, and the Financial Fiscal Commission.

She was previously married to former Gauteng ANC provincial secretary, Jacob Khawe, and later to Free State businessman, Thebe Mochochoko.

Khabutlane’s sister, Masello Maloisane, requested privacy for the family during their period of mourning.

The media statement from the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) announcing Khabutlane’s passing included the family’s request for privacy, noting that they were unable to comment further at that time. The MDB’s statement conveyed condolences on behalf of the organization and paid tribute to Khabutlane’s contributions.
