A ninth suspect linked to the Thabo Bester’s prison escape was arrested and he appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s court yesterday.
Zanda Moyo, a Zimbabwean national appeared in court without a lawyer. The 31 year old faces charges of fraud and violation of a corpse.
Other charges include aiding and abating a convicted criminal and harbouring a convict who had escaped from prison.
Thabo Bester’s girlfriend Dr Nandipha Magudumana claimed atleast three corpses from the mortuary.
Another corpse was burnt in Thabo Bester’s cell at Mangaung Maximum prison as part of his escape plan.
The other accused include Dr Nandipha, Magudumana’s father Zolile Sekeleni, and five individuals who worked at the Mangaung Maximum prison in Free State.
They played a role in aiding and abating a convicted r_apist and murderer, Thabo Bester to escape from Mangaung Maximum prison in May last year.
Moyo’s case was postponed to the 20th of June 2023.
