Mpho Phalatse Voted Out as City of Johannesburg Mayor

Dr Mpho Phalatse is no longer the  executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg. Phalatse was ousted in a no confidence vote with 129 to 140 votes.

She was ousted on Thursday afternoon and DA’s coalition partner ActionSA blamed the Democratic Alliance saying the party had neglected and allowed the ANC to pave it’s way back into power.

In September 2022, Councillors in the City of Johannesburg voted to have a motion of no confidence against Mpho Phalatse.

Of the 270 councillors in council, 139 councillors voted to have the motion tabled and voted on. Phalatse was replaced by Dada Morero.

She later made a return to her position in October after challenging her ouster in court.
