Several Transnet executives were arrested today in the morning by the National Prosecuting Authority’s investigating Directorate and Hawks.

Former Transnet Chief Executive Officer Brian Molefe and Anoj Singh, Transnet’s former Finance chief have appeared in court today.

The case has been postponed to the 14th of October 2022.

The two were arrested in connection with a R93 million corruption and fraud case linked to the procurement of atleast 1 064 locomotives in 2015.

A payment of R93 million was paid to a Gupta linked company Trillian Capital. The cost of the project which was initially R38 billion in 2015 skyrocketed to more than R50 billion .

It was the Zondo Commission that recommended the police to investigate Molefe and Singh for their role in siphoning funds from the parastatal to the Gupta family.
