On Saturday night a family faction of the Zulu royal family crowned Prince Simakade Zulu as the King in a traditional ceremony held at Enyokeni Royal Palace.

They did a ceremony known as ukungena esibayeni a week before the scheduled ceremony for King Misuzulu who is recognised by government officials and other family members.

Simakade is the late King Goodwill Zwelithini’s son who was born out of wedlock. His mother was never married and she was not from a Royal family thus disqualifies him to be King.

According to Zulu customs a King is born by a Queen who is of Royal blood. King Goodwill Zwelithini married Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu from Eswatini Kingdom.

Queen Mantfombi Dlamini was the sister of King Mswati III of Eswatini. She was the mother of King Misuzulu KaZwelithini. Zulu customs qualifies Misuzulu to be the King.

The battle for the throne started after the passing of the late Monarchy King Goodwill Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu who was the regent.
