The first case of Monkey pox has been dictated in South Africa. The Minister of Health Joe Phaahla revealed that he was notified by the country’s laboratory services.

The patient is a 30 year old man from Johannesburg, Gauteng. The man had no history of travelling outside South Africa.

The health authorities are now in the process of contact tracing to see if there are other people infected.

Monkey pox is a viral disease and the symptoms are flu-like and skin lesions. The pox has been identified in some parts of Africa before.
