Newzroom Afrika reported that the defense lawyer representing accused one to four in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has asked the magistrate in his case assult to recuse himself.
Advocate Malesela Teffo was arrested last month for contempt of court. Malesela Teffo missed his own court appearance on charges of trespassing and assult.
Teffo appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Friday. His lawyer Timothy Thobane told the Magistrate that there were two complaints against him.
Legal analyst advocate Romeo Nthambeleni who spoke to Newzroom Afrika said every accused has a right to a fair trial .
He said Teffo has a right to ask for the Magistrate’s recusal from the case if there is prejudice.
Nthambeleni revealed that there must be solid reasons if the recusal is to be granted.
In another case former President Jacob Zuma was always asking for Justice Raymond Zondo to recuse himself in the State Captured Inquiry case citing unfairness.
