SA Rugby has confirmed the passing of former Springsbok Captain, Dawie de Villiers. The sportsman died at his home in Stellenbosch.

It is believed Dawie de Villiers might have passed due to natural causes, he was aged 81. As scrumhalf, he played 25 test matches for the South African side.

After retiring from sports he went into politics and became a Member of Parliament from 1972 to 1977.

Dawie de Villiers was later appointed as South African Ambassador in London before returning back to politics and retiring on home soil.
