South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, auctioned 72 cattle from his Ntaba Nyoni farm on Saturday, 5 March, including 16 of his Ankole cattle (10 cows and 6 bulls).

Ramaphosa’s brother in law, Patrice Motsepe, is reported to have bought four Ankloe female cows for R4, 7 million at the auction, with the most expensive cow costing him R2, 1 million.

Other cattle on the auction included 26 Boran (six bulls; 20 cows) and Bonsmara (10 bulls; 20 cows).

Ramaphosa is reported to have first imported the Ankole  cattle to South Africa from Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, after he visited that country in 2004.

Ramaphosa is now the biggest Ankole cattle farmer in South Africa.
