A Specialist Engineer at Absa in Sandton, Xolela Masebeni has been arrested by the Hawks for fraud. This was after he allegedly transferred R103 million into six different bank accounts.
The fraudulent activities happened over four months between September and December 2021. Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu revealed that the matter was reported by the bank which led to an internal investigation.
Xolela Masebeni was traced and arrested in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape Province on the 19th of January 2022.
The accused was charged with theft and he appeared in Komani Magistrate’s court in Queenstown. Masebeni was remanded pending further investigations.
Masebeni is expected to appear at the Palm Ridge specialised commercial crimes Court on the 27th of January.
