Former President Jacob Zuma was arrested in July after the Constitutional Court found him guilty of contempt of court. He had refused to appear before the Zondo Commission.

The president was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the highest court in South Africa and he was serving his sentence at Estcourt prison.

Last month reports emerged that the former head of state was admitted in hospital. The Department of Correctional Services released a statement saying Zuma has been placed on medical parole.

Below is the statement.
