Mzansi woke up to the most shocking and devastating news that Gee Six Five is no more. Fans are still trying to come to terms with the passing of the musician.

The family has released a statement about Gee Six Five’s passing. The Selepe and Mbatha families confirmed that Gee Six Five had tested positive for Coronavirus before her death.

Nkosingiphile Olpha Selepe aka Gee Six Five’s niece shared the sad news on Twitter.

South Africans were introduced to her as Gee Six Five who performed the Amapiano hit song Obani Labantu.

The 65 year old retired teacher had a successful career as a Primary School principal. In 2018, she completed her Masters Degree at the age of 63.

At the time of her death she was pursuing a Doctoral Degree. Her love of music began while she was training at a teachers college.

Gee Six Five passed away today in Durban where she has been self isolating under the watch of her family after receiving a positive diagnosis for Covid-19 on Monday.

She leaves behind three children and several grand children, her sister, nephews and nieces.
