South African billionaire and mining mogul Patrice Motsepe has announced that he is running for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) presidency.

South African Minister of Sports Nathi Mthethwa and SAFA President Danny Jordaan briefed the media regarding the candidacy of Patrice Motsepe.

Mr Jordaan said Forbes magazine honoured Motsepe as one of the 100 greatest living business minds in the world alongside Jack Ma and Bill Gates among others.

Jordaan said as SAFA they nominated Patrice Motsepe because they believe he is  passionate and is patriotic when it comes to uplifting football across the African continent.

He mentioned that several  African countries sent letters of endorsement supporting Motsepe to run for the presidency.

Patrice Motsepe is also the President of Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
