South African female celebrities find themselves having to defend themselves from baseless accusations on a regular basis, and the same rings true when it comes to skin bleaching

If a popular figure is pictured looking slightly lighter than usual then it usually doesn’t take long for rumours of them bleaching their skin to start making the headlines.

There are a number of celebrities who are quite open about their bleaching procedures, but these women below did not appreciate the unjust speculation about the tone of their skin.

1. Thando Thabethe

Thando thought she had buried the skin bleaching rumours back in 2015 but when they resurfaced in October 2019, the 5FM presenter was forced to hit back and set the record straight.

2. DJ Zinhle

Remember the viral “10 Year Challenge” which kicked off this year? When DJ Zinhle posted her pictures, an influencer claimed that her bleaching was “on steroids”.

Zinhle didn’t appreciate the shade and snapped back firmly.

3. Lerato Kganyago

Lerato Kganyago generally doesn’t take any nonsense on the timeline and she wasn’t in the mood to be bullied when tweeps accused her of bleaching her skin.

The Metro FM presenter put her critics in their place on this occasion.

4. Minnie Dlamini

Minnie Dlamini is one of the kindest people in the industry but she has no tolerance for people who spread lies, including those about her skin.

So when rumours about her bleaching began to do the rounds she had to draw the line and slam the liars.

5. Bonang Matheba

Bonang didn’t exactly clap back when she was accused of skin bleaching, perhaps  because the rumour was so ridiculous in the first place.

Instead, she blocked every tweep who suggested that she was using products to alter her complexion.
