In a cease-and-desist letter, lawyers for Groovin Nthabeleng, a business and advertising industry figure, have ordered social media blogger Musa Khawula to retract his claims and issue a formal apology. Khawula had alleged on social media that Nthabeleng was receiving monthly payments from alleged criminal Vusimizi “Cat” Matlala.
Khawula claimed that Matlala would make cash drops at Nthabeleng’s residence. Khawula also claimed that Nthabeleng was being paid R2m a month to facilitate a scheme for Matlala’s political protection. The article also references a second post by Khawula claiming that Nthabeleng was in a secret relationship with Connie Ferguson and was a business partner of Matlala.
Nthabeleng’s lawyer stated that Khawula’s posts “directly affected his present and future business interests and dignity.” The lawyer also said the posts were “wrongful and defamatory” and intended to incite the public and harm their client. Nthabeleng has been ordered to withdraw his statements and issue a formal apology.
