Floyd Shivambu, founder of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement, recently had a significant and productive meeting with King Misizulu kaZwelithini, the Zulu monarch. During this meeting, which took place in KwaZulu-Natal, Shivambu introduced the Mayibuye Movement to the king and sought his advice regarding the country’s political climate and the movement’s future direction.
Shivambu explained that the meeting was constructive and instructive, emphasizing that the movement is taking the right shape and direction. The discussions focused on the outcomes of the Mayibuye Movement’s consultations with people in KwaZulu-Natal and the broader idea of formally establishing a political organisation. Shivambu reported to King Misizulu what the people of KwaZulu-Natal had expressed—a desire for an alternative political formation that combines unions, organisations, and a political party to contest the 2026 elections with the aim of winning, not merely participating.
Moreover, Shivambu pledged that the Mayibuye Movement would recognise the role of traditional and royal leaders across South Africa, signaling respect and support for these institutions. He also clarified that the Mayibuye Movement is an independent entity and not a splinter group from any existing parties such as the MK Party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), or the African National Congress (ANC).
