The Balobedu Royal Council says it disapproves of the Mzansi Magic series, Queen Modjadji which is set to air on Sunday as they were never consulted by the producers of the show.

The royal council says neither MultiChoice nor the producers Duma KaNdlovu approached them before making the series which is inspired by the world famous Balobedu rainmaker, Queen Modjadji whose bloodline has ruled the Balobedu clan for centuries. Queen Modjadji is scheduled to air on Mzansi Magic on July 14, 2024.

MultiChoice said they were sure the matter would be thrown out when it is heard on Tuesday, July 9. “We are confident that the court will dismiss the case and viewers will not be deprived of the opportunity of watching this epic story inspired by the Balobedu legendary rainmaker, the first Queen Modjadji.”

They also said there is no factual or legal basis for the application. The Balobedu Royal council was not consulted and the Queen was not consulted.” We have been undermined by the apartheid government,” they said.

Another complaint was about the wardrobe the tv production decided on. The attire to be displayed does not represent the Balobedu attire as it uses Ndebele, Zulu and Xhosa attire which constitutes a misrepresentation
