The National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is a South American politician born on 13 November 1956 in Cape Town. She was appointed Minister of Defence by former president Jacob Zuma in June 2012.

She was the Minister of Home Affairs from 2004 to 2009 and Minister of Correctional Services from 2009 to 2012. Before her appointment as Minister of Home Affairs, she was the Deputy Minister of that department. In 1993, she was the Secretary General of the ANC Women’s League.

She is married to Charles Nqakula, who is a hogh commissioner to the Republic of Mozambique from South Africa. He has previously served as Minister of Defence and Minister of Safety and Security.
