South African former professional sprinter, Oscar Pistorius’ parole hearing was today, the 24th of November 2023 in Pretoria.

Pistorius has been granted parole and he will be released from prison in January 2024.

A few months ago, the South African athlete and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius, petitioned the Constitutional Court to reverse the decision to deny him parole.

Oscar Pistorius believed that he qualified for an early release on parole considering the amount of time he spent behind bars.

Pistorius was denied parole after appearing before the parole board for the his appeal in March 2023.

The athlete was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius shot Reeva on Valentine’s day in 2013.

He has so far served half of his sentence thus he appealed for parole. Below is a statement from the Correctional Services.
