President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate a R295 million contract awarded to businessman Edwin Sodi.

The authorisation came a day after the businessman celebrated his 50th birthday at his R100 million mansion in the leafy suburb of Bryanston in Johannesburg.

Sodi’s company was awarded a R295 million contract for the Rooiwal Wastewater treatment works Project in Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.

The SIU also found out that Edwin Sodi’s company Blackhead Consulting and Diamond Hill Trading should not have been awarded a R255 million asbestos tender in the Free State.
