Police Officer Shot Dead While Changing Tyre on the N2

Constable Jairus Joshua Govender was fatally shot by criminals while he was changing his tyre on the N2, near Scottburgh Mall in the South Coast.

The 23 year old officer was stationed at the Public Order and Policing Unit at the Port Shepstone Police station.

Govender and his girlfriend who is also a Constable were travelling in separate vehicles to their flat in Chatsworth.

His girlfriend saw two men approaching from the bushes. The men started shooting and the bullets hit Jairus’ lungs and heart.

The criminals grabbed phones from the Constables and fled the scene.
