The former president of South Africa Jacob Zuma is not going back to prison.

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Honourable Ronald Lamola has granted Zuma a remission to his 15-months jail sentence of 2021.

Zuma was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the Constitutional Court for contempt of Court. He had failed to comply with the ruling compelling him to appear before the Zondo Commission.

The former head of state spent two-months in jail of the 15-month sentence before being released on medical parole.

The High Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal later found out that Zuma’s release on medical parole was unlawful and set it aside.

Lamola said that Zuma was one of the thousands of inmates who have benefitted from remissions of sentences as his department seeks to alleviate overcrowding in South African prisons.
