Self proclaimed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri are set to appear in the Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court in Malawi for their extradition hearing.
The hearing was due to begin in May 2023 but was postponed after the lawyer representing the Bushiris made an application that witnesses’ statements were not authenticated according to the Malawian extradition laws.
South Africa is expected to parade witnesses as ordered by the High Court in Malawi. The extradition was first initiated in December 2020, a month after they fled South Africa for Malawi.
The Bushiris were contravening their bail conditions when they fled to their home country. They had been granted R200 000 bail each on conditions that they will not leave the country.
The couple is facing a string of charges that include, money laundering, corruption and theft. Bushiri also faces charges of r_ape.
